Meet Ms. Peta Douglas

Peta Douglas Carvalho graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies and earned her master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia. Ms. Douglas began her career in education in 2012 as a Teach For America corps member, teaching fourth grade at Emerson Elementary in Houston ISD. She served as a curriculum specialist, instructional specialist, and Assistant Principal before becoming Principal of Shearn Elementary School in 2021. Under her leadership, Shearn has experienced significant academic growth, with the percentage of students performing at and above grade level more than doubling in reading and mathematics.
